Dental emergencies can be stressful. Breaking or cracking a tooth, getting teeth knocked out, or waking up with a painful toothache and swollen face is never something you expect. Unfortunately, sometimes the unexpected happens.
Often when this is the case, time is critical; visiting your dentist immediately might be the difference between a relatively painless fix and a costly procedure. In these situations, you don’t want to have to wait for your dentist to have a cancellation or free appointment weeks down the track. You need to get in as soon as possible.
Instead of waiting, make an appointment with the expert dentists at Smilecare Dental. If you need an emergency dentist in Adelaide, give us a call and we’ll make a time for you. We understand that you don’t want to deal with tooth pain or dental discomfort for long and will make sure to get you in for an emergency appointment as soon as possible.
What counts as a Dental Emergency?
There are a number of dental problems that mean you should visit your dentist as soon as possible. They can include:
- A knocked out tooth
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Swelling or large abscesses
- Jaw pain that doesn’t go away
- Unexplained bleeding in the mouth
- Toothache that doesn’t go away
If any of these emergencies happen to you, don’t panic. You should seek dental treatment immediately, but there are other things you can do to relieve symptoms and give your teeth the best chance of recovery.
Moderate pain can be soothed with cold compresses on the outside of your cheek or by washing warm water around your mouth. Over-the-counter painkillers will also give you some relief. Lost or broken teeth should be looked after until you are able to visit a dentist (read more on our blog post, “Broken tooth? Here’s What to Do”).
